Is your headshot from 1990? The internet provides tons of advice on how to grow your business, but one piece, in particular, strikes me. It’s a relatively simple suggestion: you should put a picture of yourself on your website – because people connect with people.
In the digital age, this seems like relatively simple advice. We communicate with pictures everywhere of our products all day long, but as business owners, it is really hard to put our image out there. As a child of the digital age, I admit when I am looking for a business to work with I search high and low for who is behind the storefront. I want to get to know you before I meet you or give you my money.
I know you have been told that a picture is worth a thousand words, but in this case, it may be worth a thousand dollars. Showing you and your team on your website and social platforms can tell your customers if you are approachable, competent, confident, if you have a good team, years of experience and all sorts of information.
Now here is the most important advice I can give:

You don’t have to have a formal business headshot. You can have candid photos of yourself and your team in your own environment. If the photos are done well, it can help show your team interaction in your business environment.

Use very little stock photography on your business site. If you have a photographer coming to take your headshots, why not have them snap a few of your work environment to be used on your website and social platforms.

Have confidence in your photographer’s creative ability. You will be surprised how they see you, your team, and your business in a beautiful light.
